The students in Ms. Channels 2nd grade class recently read Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt. The students learned of the young girl, Clara, who by using scraps of fabric and listening to conversations, stitched a map of the Underground Railroad in a quilt. This map was one that masters would not be able to recognize and the quilt would help many to freedom. After reading the book, Ms. Channels’ students created their own quilt with a secret map.
