Our fourth grade class had a great time learning about minerals with a visit from a retired geologist and teacher. Mr. Phillips even brought a sample of Michigan native copper for each student. The native copper from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is called Halfbreed which contains pure copper and pure silver in the same piece of rock. Michigan’s copper mines were considered remarkable for their
purity and quality.
