Teacher Spotlight: Jane Ye - Ivywood

Teacher Spotlight: Jane Ye

Meet our music teacher Jane Ye. Born and raised in China, she moved to New Jersey when she was in high school. With the inspiration of her choral directors, she was encouraged to look into a career in music.

After studying at the University of Michigan, she is teaching for her first year at Ivywood! She has an abundance of knowledge in the world of music and a desire to grow and learn with students.

Who inspired you or why did you choose to become a teacher?

My high school choral directors inspired me to be a music teacher. They set high expectations and treated me with great respect. They always had smiles on their faces because they enjoyed what they were doing. I learned that I wanted to be able to provide that same fulfillment for students as they did for me.

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming school year at Ivywood Academy?

I am looking forward to sharing my passion for music and cannot wait to hear them make music. The pace of our class will be fast and I will incorporate all different techniques and styles so that students can learn and have fun while doing it.

What is your favorite part of teaching?

My favorite part of teaching is to see the growth in students’ abilities and to see the smiles on their faces when they accomplish challenging tasks.

My mentor teacher told me that I was a natural elementary teacher because I was able to get along and understand where the students were so quickly. I’m excited to be able to put this into practice and teach at Ivywood.

What do you do outside of the classroom? What are your hobbies?

Outside of the classroom, I am a substitute piano/violin/viola/cello teacher in a music academy. I love to play the piano, watch dramas and play sports during my free time. I am currently singing in an a capella club at the University of Michigan, which I’ve been attending for the past four years.
